If your kitchen has dark cabinets or appliances, balance them by adding white and bright accents. If your kitchen is already light, introduce pops of bright, coastal-inspired colors like aqua to give it personality. I've had both a light and dark kitchen in the past few years, which I'll show you in a moment!
Keep It Simple and Functional
To avoid your kitchen looking too kitschy, focus on colors rather than adding too many coastal-themed items. A few subtle coastal touches and small appliances in coastal colors can bring in just the right amount of beachy charm. After all, kitchens are meant to be functional!
My Coastal Kitchen Story
I focus on coastal colors in my current home to tie my kitchen to the rest of my open-concept space. My aqua vintage kitchen decor brings in that beachy vibe without overloading on the beachy items- those are throughout the rest of the home. My kitchen is small and functional, so the colors are what pull it all together.
In my previous home, I had dark cabinetry and floors, black appliances, and counters that weren’t my favorite. To make it feel more like the coastal haven I was craving, I DIYed a backsplash! I used painted peel-and-stick floorboards, attaching them to the wall with cool nail-style carpet tacks for a unique look.
Above the cabinets, I styled aqua and coastal decor, and in the connected dining area, I kept everything bright white and continued the pops of aqua to keep the space feeling light and airy.
